Exploring Connections Between Children’s Literature and Art

April 4, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Free

The Rosendale Library, in partnership with Arts Mid Hudson’s grant, invites children, school age between 2nd and 4th grade, with their parents, to a fun-filled, creative series of discovering books in a unique way. Each week, inspired by reading a different book. children (and parents!) will create, through hands-on experiences, a series of art projects using such materials as clay in sculpture, metal tooling, paint, and drawing! Artist Jill Obrig has been doing this series of projects around the Hudson Valley at libraries such as Kingston, Hurley, and Stone Ridge since 2016.

Jill Obrig has been teaching art, to people of all ages, across New York, for over 35 years which include public school art from k-12 to museums like Olana and the Parrish Art Museum (Long Island), to galleries like the Unframed Artists Gallery to summer camps to various venues including an After School Art Programs in elementary schools or helping out High School Classes with fundraisers. Jill has been awarded the Arts Mid Hudson Decentralized Grants in 2016, 2017 and in 2018 teaching a unique series of art programs exploring literature through children’s books, and fusing it with art history, learning about artists and cultures, then applying this knowledge into creating amazing sculptures, drawings, paintings and multimedia.

This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson.

This is a free event being held all four Wednesdays in April.
